Moby Wraps and Health Benefits

Moby Wrap, Inc. was created in 2003 by parents in search of the perfect Baby Carrier.  The California company is family-owned and operated and distributes its products through retail channels in the United States and 19 other countries.

The simple design of the Moby Wrap Baby sling has essentially been around for hundreds of years. It’s a simple piece of wide cotton that you just tie together – no straps to deal with, no buckles to figure out. Your baby’s weight is distributed evenly. You use your entire back instead of having the full brunt just on one spot on your shoulders like conventional child carriers. Best of all, there are practically no limits to the ways your can carry your baby. Use your front, your hip, your back, it all works.

Clinical studies have shown that using a Moby Wrap has tremendous benefits for premature babies, a mother’s chest temperature changes to meet her baby’s needs, rising if baby is cold and decreasing if the infant becomes too warm. The mother’s chest responds through biofeedback, doing a superior job to a traditional incubator. A baby’s stress hormones, blood pressure, oxygenation, temperature, and heart rate stabilize with skin-on-skin contact. These findings are changing hospital practices for the better. Babies are more likely to be left on their mothers for at least an hour after bitrh in order to assist in this vital sign stabilization. This is also true before and after any invasive procedure such as drawing blood. A baby that experiences skin-on-skin is more likely to breastfeed without problems. Such close contact “elicits care-giving and protective behaviors.”

As a parent I am very aware of the need that parents have to enjoy a secure, comfortable and hands-free baby wearing experience.  I am so happy that Moby is able to provide this tool. Your heartbeat and the warmth of your body against a child’s will put them at total ease. It really has to be seen to be believed. Once your baby is secure and next to you, all the crying and fussing disappear.

The fabric itself can hold a child up to 45 lbs., though most parents feel more comfortable with kids 35 lbs. and under. It is completely machine washable.

I read an article yesterday about the economic crisis which, as I live in London, is all anyone talks about here. Kind of like how all anyone talks about at home is the crime in SA. A very interesting point in this article was that a lot of this recession is in our minds we read the articles about all the bad news and companies closing and redundancies etc etc, and it builds up our own fears. It adds fuel to the fire that does exist but probably isnt as bad as what we imagine it to be. This fear leads to people not spending any money as they dont know what their futures might hold. This lack of spending means businesses not making any money and going under etc. It is a viscious cycle, and one I that I think pertains to the crime situation in SA.
